Overview

Nutrition is not just about individuals but about whole communities and countries. This course will build on your thorough understanding of the fundamental science behind human nutrition and your understanding of the biochemical pathways in the human body for both health and disease. How will you use the same methods such as anthropometry, dietary intake, and biochemical and clinical assessments to evaluate nutritional status of a population or vulnerable groups in the population such as mother and infant or the elderly? How will such assessments inform national food and nutrition policies? How do you know if the nutrients from your diet are absorbed and utilised? You will learn about what nutritional epidemiology means and will critically analyse scientific literature and learn how to communicate scientific studies. You will also participate in discussions on sustainable development goals related to population well-being and how to achieve those goals. You will plan and propose how to execute nutrition intervention programs based on different food and nutrition situations in different countries through group activities.
