Handbook

This course provides students with the opportunity to apply their accumulated economics knowledge and build practical business and leadership capabilities through participation in a real-world practicum, in which they will work to deliver social and economic value to a local or overseas enterprise.  The practicum placement may be either UNSW-facilitated or student-sourced, conditional on academic approval from the Master of Applied Economics Program Director. Students will work hands-on with a business, social entrepreneurship organisation, government department, or other private or public sector entity in a consulting role that requires teamwork, autonomy, and the effective application of economic tools and paradigms. Each practicum experience will be different depending on the project on which the student works.

Throughout the term students will engage in formal learning (both online and face-to-face) of key concepts and skills relevant to effective teamwork and leadership in applied economics, engage reflectively with the work of the team in which they are placed, and demonstrate the real-world value of the economic approaches they have learned in prior coursework.
