While the nature of war does not change, the character of war unquestionably does. During this course we explore four key disruptive capabilities changing the character of 21st Century warfare: special operations, cyber war, autonomous weapons systems and space operations. After learning the basics of each capability we will look at its impact on operational and tactical levels of the military, as well as discuss implications for international relations and the law and finally, the ethical considerations. The course will require students to hypothesise how these capabilities will combine and interact in potential future conflict.
