Situated in a real-world international setting, students will collaborate in interdisciplinary and intercultural teams to investigate pressing challenges of urbanisation (SDG 11 ‘Sustainable Cities and Communities’). Students will critically analyse a specific socio-spatial context, identifying an urbanisation challenge. They will use this analysis to propose an ethically grounded response through the evaluation of goals, methods and potential consequences.

This course will allow students to develop and apply disciplinary knowledge whilst building capabilities as global citizens (SDG 4.7.1) that enable practice across disciplinary and cultural boundaries. The UNESCO Global Citizenship Education guideline (2015) will be used as a framework to build knowledge, skills and values that shape students who are “informed and critically literate, ethically responsible and engaged, socially connected and respectful of diversity”.
