This field-based intensive course will equip students with qualitative research skills suited to place-based studies of environment and society. These skills will be taught with a focus on specific regional places, and framed by topics and issues that will vary depending on site/s selected that term. The field component is the centrepiece of the course. This course provides place-based experiential learning though research field study methodologies. The field work is supported by preliminary classroom and/or on-line activities. The course provides a learning environment within which students apply the concepts, theories, and frameworks they have learned in this and other courses, and develop qualitative methodologies for doing independent, site-specific research. Note: this course involves a field study trip at additional expense to students to cover the costs of transportation, accommodation, and meals.
