The organisations we work in are rich and complex organisms in which many interactions, relationships and processes are played out daily. The complexity of these interactions often makes them difficult to understand and manage. This course aims to help students develop the necessary knowledge and skills – analytical, managerial and otherwise – that will inform their lives within an organisation as a manager. Although the importance of effective and efficient management is well understood, it is remarkable how often firms and managers fail to achieve this. The task is made even more difficult by the presence of changing workforce composition and workplace arrangements, increasing globalisation, advancement in technologies, intensifying need for collaboration, and changing political, legal and social expectations
