This course will provide an introduction to data mining and machine learning techniques through a series of health applications. You will learn about the underlying supporting theory of these techniques, as well as gain the practical know-how required to effectively apply these techniques to new health data problems.

Data Mining can be defined as the discipline that merges methods coming from statistics, computer science and database analysis applied to large databases. Machine Learning—a subset of Data Mining—comprises a powerful and diverse set of techniques and algorithms used to discover patterns and relationships in (big) data with the final goal of creating knowledge from this data.
