Handbook

This course explores the wider historical, political and social context of Australian education and critically examines the social and societal factors that shape students' experiences and outcomes, with a focus on understanding and responding to the learning strengths and needs of students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds. It takes as case studies two key challenges in contemporary education, Indigenous and multicultural education, and introduce students to current research, theoretical frameworks and practical strategies to help in developing their skills and knowledge to critically reflect on and intervene in schooling policies and practices which will disadvantage or marginalise students from diverse linguistic, cultural, religious and socioeconomic backgrounds.
