Overview

This course is interdisciplinary with a focus on optimal building performance in sustainability and habitability. While the complex mechanical and automated building service systems are examined,  the course is also concerned with the application of integrated design approaches and building performance evaluation tools to reduce the reliance on such systems to meet human demands for thermal comfort, light and water. Topics include the utilization and integration of emerging technologies, real-time information, advanced high performance materials and renewable energy systems that create responsive and adaptive architecture with a positive carbon footprint. Students acquire through this course the ability to evaluate and optimize building performance, and apply learned skills in integrated design studio projects.
