The Dual award degree Bachelor of Music Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) [BMus BE (Hons)] is a 6.5 year program (full-time).

The UNSW Bachelor of Music offers intensive pre-professional training in one of four streams: Music Creative Practice, Music Inquiry, Sonic Arts and Music Pedagogy. All streams are supported by a variety of large and small, western and non-western music ensembles as well as extensive opportunities for developing musicianship skills.

The UNSW Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) is designed to equip you for a career as a professional engineer. We provide you with a solid background in mathematics, natural sciences and computing that will prepare you for learning knowledge and skills in an engineering discipline specialisation. You will get the chance to apply yourself to engineering design and enquiry projects, professional engineering practice, engineering and technical management and conduct research towards your thesis project.

Admission to the program is subject to a satisfactory music audition and an acceptable level of attainment in year 12 music studies or equivalent. Applicants must satisfy the entry requirements to UNSW Engineering as well as to UNSW Arts and Social Sciences.

In this dual degree program, students must successfully complete 312 units of credit (UOC), including 144 UOC for the BMus and 168 UOC for the BE (Hons). Students must also complete 60 days of approved Industrial Training for the Engineering program.

Note: Students cannot double count their stream courses as Prescribed Music Electives. Prescribed Music Electives must be chosen from outside their stream courses.

Award with Distinction

High achieving students who secure a WAM of 75 in each program and who have completed at least 48 UOC in each program at UNSW are eligible for the award of their Pass Degree "with Distinction".

Honours

High achieving Bachelor of Music / Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) students who have successfully completed all course requirements for levels 1-4 may apply to continue their fifth year of study in the Bachelor of Music (Honours) / Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) program 3769. Requirements for the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Dual Mode (168 UOC)

Program Structure

The BMus BE (Hons) dual degree is offered in the following Engineering disciplines:

Students enrolled in a dual program are not required to complete any General Education requirements.

NOTE: First attempt counts. Honours WAM to be calculated to one decimal place.

To obtain the Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) and the Bachelor of Music a student must successfully complete courses that total at least 312 units of credit and include courses making up at least 168 units of credit described in the stream requirements for the BE (Hons) specialisation for which the student is enrolled. Students must also complete 60 days of Industrial Training.

Students may not count more than 60 units of credit of level 1 courses in this 168 units of credit.

To ensure that all students who complete the program attain the honours level learning outcomes of the program, the progression rules for the program are as follows:

Substitution

Students may substitute up to 12 UOC of Advanced Disciplinary courses (Level 5) in place of Disciplinary Knowledge courses from a school specified stream list of courses with the approval of the Program or Stream Authority.

The Academic Rules for the BMus BE (Hons) and the online enrolment facility provide students with a wide range of course choices. The online enrolment facility checks that students meet the enrolment requirements for individual courses but not that a course complies with Program Rules. Students are responsible for ensuring they are enrolling in accordance with the Academic Rules outlined above. Students should not assume that because they have enrolled in a course online that the course is automatically credited to their degree program.
