Australian Economic Development - ECON2313

This course is about the historical economic events that shaped Australia’s economy. We will examine the Australian development from the end of the 19th century to the present day. We will look at booms and depressions, the emergence of economic institutions, the role of government and economic policy, migration and capital flows, the impact of war, the development of new sectors, and the changes in the standard of living associated with economic development. These issues will also be put in the context of an international historical perspective. At the end of this course, students will have a deep understanding of the historical roots of the current economic conditions in Australia.
