Description

This course examines art in the 21st century. Its focus is on key modes of art practice and theory in relation to broader cultural and socio-political contexts since 2000. It addresses how contemporary art helps us to understand the key issues and challenges of our times. Themes could include: the meaning and impact of globalisation, the discourse of 'the contemporary', the significance of 'post' (postmodernism, post-colonialism, post-feminism, post-socialism), the impact of science and new technologies on art, art and politics, art and social practice, art and ecology.
