Description
In Writing for Publication you will examine different genres of writing on the visual arts, with an emphasis on contemporary practices. Reviews in mainstream media sites, extended critiques, scholarly catalogue essays, brief descriptive catalogue notes, writing for popular glossy books on art and collaborative works between artists and writers are studied to identify connections to other genres of writing, such as journalism, fictional narrative and descriptive prose for example. You will look at these writings within specific cultural fields and examine their assumed sets of values. This demonstrates how such categories play an active role in the shaping and production of meanings in art.
Assessment requires you to work collaboratively as a group to write, edit and publish material for the online magazine Artwrite.
