Description
Most global environmental problems are doubly complex, involving both complex ecosystems and complex social systems. Managing this complexity requires both disciplinary and integrative interdisciplinary approaches. This General Education course will offer you the opportunity to take an integrative approach that spans a wide range of disciplines, focusing on the problems and their solutions rather than specific disciplines.
You’ll be introduced to an interdisciplinary approach to framing, analysing and solving complex global environmental problems. Scientific, technological, economic, social, ethical and policy aspects will be addressed within a framework of ecologically sustainable and socially just development. Case studies -- such as sustainable cities, biodiversity management and water management -- will each offer two or more potential solutions for discussion.
