NOTE: Up to Session 1 2010 this course was offered as BIOC3291. From Session 2 2010 it has been changed to course code BABS3291.
This course covers diverse concepts in genetics and evolution, including ecological genetics, selection, organelle evolution, evolution of sex and recombination, population structure, genetics of speciation, molecular evolution and phylogenetics. The structure and organisation of the genome, and the forces that shape it (such as mutation, recombination and genetic drift) will be studied and examples taken from humans, plants, native species and model organisms such as insects and mircobes. Computer exercises and discussion groups will be used to complement the lectures and introduce exciting and controversial topics in genetics.
