Description

This course follows the design process for the commercial production of textiles for interior and home ware uses. The course tracks the development of a design from sketch, to design brief, concept development, sampling and final manufacture. It will explore and examine the weave, stitch, embroidery and print processes at studio and industry level, including professional presentation, colour ways and client requirements. Students will visit textile firms in the commercial textile industry, where the concept of briefs, design development and client relationships will be discussed. Students can use this knowledge to produce textile related project work with industrial applications to set briefs, relating to interior and home ware fabrics. These excursions give students the opportunity to meet textile designers, and observe the studio activities offering an insight into career possibilities in textile design. The course surveys the evolution of textile design techniques and the current shift to digital production process.
