In Modern Algebra we examine some of the basic notions of modern algebra that arose in the late 19th and early 20th century. The most fundamental notion is that of a group, which is how mathematicians study symmetry. All Masters level students of pure mathematics who have not covered this material should complete this course. Knowledge of linear algebra is a prerequisite for this course. This is a demanding course usually with 4 hours of lectures and another hour for a tutorial each week.
