Description

This course critically assesses the key elements of managing the core concerns of public sector organisations: Managing people, managing information, and managing money. Students learn the key mechanisms by which public sector managers might exercise control over resources within their organisations, evaluating both the options and constraints within the public sector relating to human resource management, information management (both IT and IS) and financial management; understanding the key debates within the Australian public sector relating to this internal resource management and developing personal skills and confidence in deploying human resource , information and financial resources within the public sector. While acknowledging generic concerns within these aspects that impact upon private sector organisations, the primary focus of the course is upon critically examining the characteristics that are specific to the public sector, with particular focus on the experience of these within the Australian public sector.
