Description

This course explores the experiences of Indigenous people in countries comparable to Australia. Students will consider the similarities and distinctions between the histories and cultural experiences of Indigenous peoples across the globe students and investigate the growing network of cross-Indigenous exchange and efforts to mobilise international bodies (such as the United Nations) to enact positive change on local, national and international levels. Histories of resistance and the emergence of contemporary Indigenous movements to reclaim and retain languages, cultural heritage and identities in an increasingly homogenised global environment will also be considered.
